ADOPTED!

Meet Lewis! He is a sweet 8-month-old chocolate Labrador Retriever surrendered to WCLRR by a breeder. Lewis is a gorgeous English lab with a boxy head, thick otter tail, and sturdy frame. He has a beautiful glossy brown coat and soft golden eyes to melt your heart!

Lewis is a low-to-medium-energy pup. He is most excited when he gets out of his crate in the morning. He is so happy to be with his people and foster pup siblings, behaving like an actual puppy by running around in the yard and playing with his buddies. He is not interested in fetch, preferring to chase and play with the other dogs. He enjoys soft, squeaky toys and chew toys. Lewis also enjoys finding, playing with, and chewing paper, so his new family will need to keep wastebaskets out of reach. Lewis is very athletic and loves running, jumping, and spinning in the air.

Lewis is a “people pup” that wants to stay close to his humans. He enjoys playing with the other dogs, but he makes sure that he doesn’t stray too far from his humans! He will follow his people everywhere and loves to snuggle. Lewis has had limited exposure to people, animals, and other things in our environment in his short life. As a result, he is shy and cautious around new people and experiences. When meeting new people, Lewis will try to hide from them. However, he’ll warm up if they give him a few treats.

Lewis is still a puppy and received no real training in his previous home. His new family will need to be dedicated to working with him to help him be a perfect pup. Because Lewis has spent much of his life outside, he is unaware of his size in the house and bumps into things. This will change with time as he becomes acclimated to his new home. However, Lewis does know his name and comes when called.

Lewis is learning to walk on a leash. His foster family has had him on a leash in the yard and in the house to help get him used to the feel of the leash. However, he has not spent time outside of the home on a leash, and his new family will need to work with him to learn proper leash behavior.

Lewis is house trained and hasn’t had any accidents in his foster home. His new family will need to take him outside frequently and teach him to use a doggy door to reinforce proper behavior. Lewis is also crate trained. He had spent up to six hours in his crate when his foster family needed to be gone during the day with no problems. Lewis sleeps in a crate in a separate room from his foster family. He will wait in the crate, but once he hears and sees that his family is up, he gets excited and turns into a big wiggle that can’t wait to get out!

Lewis’ ideal home would be with an individual, couple, or family where someone can be home to spend time with him and work on training. Lewis needs a home where basic obedience training is a very high priority and begins as soon as possible. Training in a structured “class” setting would be ideal. This will help Lewis become more social with people, build a strong relationship with his new family, and give him more confidence as he matures. He adores other dogs, so a home with one or more dogs would be perfect for him! Lewis is becoming very aware of small creatures such as birds and lizards and may give chase, so a home without small pets would be best.

Lewis is up to date on his vaccinations, neutered, and is microchipped.
