ADOPTED!

Meet Clark! He is a sweet 8-month-old chocolate Labrador Retriever surrendered to WCLRR by a breeder. Clark is a handsome English lab with the trademark boxy head, thick otter tail, and sturdy frame. In addition, he has a beautiful glossy brown coat and gorgeous soft golden eyes!

Clark is a low-to-medium-energy pup. He is most active in the morning when he gets out of his crate. He is so happy to be with his people and foster pup siblings, exhibiting his true puppy self by running around in the yard and playing with them. Clark loves to “stalk” the other dogs, and then the chase is on! He is learning the game of fetch and will play for a few minutes, but he prefers running around with the other dogs chasing a ball. He enjoys all kinds of soft, squeaky toys and chew toys. Clark is an athletic dog and loves to run, jump, and spin in the air.

Clark loves to be with his people, and while he enjoys playing with the other dogs, he makes sure that he doesn’t stray too far from his humans! He will follow his people everywhere and loves to snuggle. Clark led a sheltered life before he came to WCLRR, and he is a bit shy and cautious around new people and experiences. When meeting new people, he will try to hide from them. However, if they give him a few treats, he’ll warm up.

Clark is still a puppy and received no real training in his previous home, so his new family will need to be prepared to work with him to help him be a perfect pup. We think he spent much of his life outside. He sometimes doesn’t seem to know his size in the house and bumps into things, but this will change with time. Clark does know his name and comes when called.

Clark is learning to walk on a leash and is doing very well. He was a bit timid at first. Every sight and sound was new to him, and he didn’t know what to do! He doesn’t pull but will sometimes walk into his person when he gets distracted by all the new, fascinating things around him!

Clark is house trained, although he has had a few mistakes in his foster home. His new family will need to take him outside frequently and teach him to use a doggy door or tell them when he needs to go out. Clark is also crate trained. He had spent up to six hours in his crate when his foster family required to be gone during the day with no problems. He often goes into his crate when he’s ready for bed in the evening. Clark sleeps in a crate in a separate room from his foster family. He will wait in the crate, but once he hears and sees that his family is up, he gets excited and turns into a big wiggle that can’t wait to get out!

Clark’s ideal home would be with an individual, couple, or family where someone can be home to spend time with him and work on training. Clark needs a home where basic obedience training is a very high priority and begins as soon as possible. Training in a structured “class” setting would be ideal. This will help Clark become more social with people, build a strong relationship with his furever family, and give him more confidence as he matures. He adores other dogs, so a home with one or more dogs would be perfect for him! Clark is becoming very aware of small creatures such as birds and lizards and may give chase, so a home without small pets would be best.

Clark is up to date on his vaccinations, neutered, and is microchipped.
