ADOPTED!

Meet Bruno! He is a handsome two-year-old male yellow Labrador Retriever with a beautiful smile. Bruno was surrendered to WCLRR when his elderly owner realized he could no longer care for him.

Bruno is a medium-to-high energy dog. He enjoys just about any toy he can get his mouth on, and running and playing ball outside are his favorite activities! Bruno enjoys squeaky toys, rope tug toys, and rubber balls but tears the stuffing out of soft toys, which are dangerous for any dog.

Bruno loves being with people and animals. His foster mom has had several visitors to her home during the holidays, and Bruno has generally been well-behaved. He sometimes jumps when he gets excited, and he may try to get into visitors’ laps to get to know them better. Bruno adores his foster sister. When Bruno is in the house, he knows it’s time to relax and hang out, and he will play with his toys or with his foster sister. He has met the neighbors’ dogs through the fence and has been OK with them. Bruno has been around chickens, horses, and cows and wants to play with them! He has never barked at them, chased them, or bitten them. Bruno has not been tested with cats, however.

Bruno is potty trained and hasn’t had any accidents in his foster home. He is also crate trained and will stay in the crate if his foster needs to leave him alone for a few hours. Bruno sleeps in the crate at night and will get up in the morning when his people do. Bruno will bark one time if he needs to go potty during the night. Generally, he will sleep through the night if he goes outside before bedtime. Bruno is a snorer, and his foster says that sometimes it sounds like a small bear is in his crate!

Bruno knows several commands, including sit, lay down, and come. His foster has been teaching him to focus and listen to the commands that he is given. Bruno is young and gets excited about new activities and environments. It can take him a little time to focus and perform his command.

Bruno walks well on the leash, although he can get a little distracted and excited in new areas and needs to be reminded to walk next to his person and not pull. He is an intelligent dog and learns quickly. He does tend to jump when he gets excited, but his foster is working with him on that and reports that he’s getting better every day!

Like most labs, Bruno loves food and treats and gets excited at the prospect of eating. He is learning to take treats nicely. His foster has not seen any incidents of resource guarding and can take his food away from him without a problem. He needs to work on his manners when taking treats. He hasn’t tried to counter-surf, but his foster mom keeps counters clear just in case. His new family will need to remember that Bruno is an active young dog and might explore the counters if his people aren’t looking. They should ensure that no food or dangerous items such as medicines are left within his reach.

Bruno’s ideal home would be with another active dog. He would be perfect for a couple that enjoys going on adventures or just taking daily walks. Bruno loves other dogs and would be happiest in a home with at least one other dog of his size and energy level to play with. Bruno hasn’t lived with young children. Since he does jump and can try to grab treats from your hand, he would do best in a home with no small children.

Bruno is neutered, is current on his vaccines, and is microchipped.
