ADOPTED!

Meet Oatie! He is a handsome male chocolate Labrador Retriever mix, approximately two years old. Oatie was surrendered by his owner when she decided to return to school and felt she wouldn’t be able to give him the attention he deserved.

Oatie is generally a mellow boy, although he sometimes gets excited greeting people. Because he occasionally jumps up, we will not place him in a home with children under ten years old. Oatie is a smart boy – he knows to sit for treats and meals and is learning to leave it. He is good with other dogs, and he gets along well with his foster’s Labrador. He can be a bit pushy when initially meeting dogs but settles down once they’ve met.

Oatie is a total love bug, very affectionate, and loves to be with his people. He follows his foster Mom everywhere and is quite happy to sit next to you on the sofa to watch television! He hangs out with his foster Mom while she’s working during the day, napping on the floor in her office. He loves to play with balls and rope toys, although sometimes he’s more interested in catching them and then chewing on them for a bit rather than bringing them back to you! But, he is good in the home and doesn’t chew on anything other than his toys!

Oatie likes outdoor adventures too. He happily jumps in the car and wants to have his head out the window to catch all the exciting sights and smells. He enjoys walks and is pretty good on the leash, although he sometimes pulls a bit when he sees something exciting. He loves sticks and will often pick one up to carry with him on his walk. Although the experience is relatively new to him, Oatie also enjoys the beach, and he is a little unsure of the waves. He has been paddleboarding and is happy to sit next to his person and enjoy the sunshine!

Oatie is house-trained and will stand by the door to let his family know he needs to go out. He hasn’t had any accidents at his foster home! His adopters will want to take him out frequently when he first arrives until he gets used to their home. Oatie was accustomed to sleeping on a dog bed next to his previous owner, and his foster is working with him to be comfortable in a crate.

Oatie had a tough start in life and now loves being with his people so much that he gets a little anxious when they’re gone. His family will need to build his confidence so that he understands that they will be back home with him as soon as possible!

Oatie has not been tested with cats but has been known to chase birds. We think he would do best in a home where at least one person will be home most of the time.

Oatie is neutered, is current on his vaccines, and is microchipped.
