“Dear WCLRR team, I am deeply saddened to share that we put Jax down yesterday. He lost his battle with hemangiosarcoma and had a very peaceful passing. Jax was so loved by our family, friends, and neighbors, and his loss has left a huge hole in all of our hearts. He loved unconditionally and brought a sense of warmth, friendliness, and happiness to everyone he encountered. Jax’s warm and fun personality filled our hearts and brought smiles to our faces. We are so grateful to the WCLRR team for matching Jax with our family. We could not have asked for a better dog for our family. We are taking some time to mourn his loss but look forward to partnering with you again soon to provide a home for another rescue dog.”
Meet Jax! He is a nine-year-old male yellow Labrador Retriever. Jax came to WCLRR when a family member passed away, and the remaining family could not keep him. Jax is a gentle, fun-loving, playful, handsome boy.
Jax is never seen without a ball or toy in his mouth “patiently” waiting for a game of fetch. He knows how to drop and wait, so you sometimes get a slobbery ball in your lap. Don’t let his age fool you because Jax has the energy of a younger dog. He will stop his fetch game sometimes to rest for a few minutes but will be back for more soon. His other favorite thing to do is go on walks in the neighborhood. You can truly see his eyes light up when he sees us pick up his leash. He is pretty good on a leash and does not show much interest in other dogs or people when walking.
Jax is housetrained; he even learned to use the dog door on his first day at the foster’s home. He’s not one to bark but does like to join his foster Chihuahua buddies in chasing crows out of the backyard on occasion. If you aren’t already in love with him, how about knowing Jax will sleep through the night in his dog bed and eats his meals like a gentleman. He will sometimes beg to have a bite of our dinner but will stop if you tell him to go lay down. He will look at the food on the counters and walk away when we tell him no.
Jax is currently fostered with four small dogs and a cat. The two Chihuahuas give him grief, but that’s what those dogs do. He is very patient with them, though, and does a pretty good job sharing his toys. Jax is learning some basic commands too. He can sit like a champ but still is looking for a treat before he will lay down.
Jax loves his treats just as much as his ball and toys. His foster family is totally in love with this big, goofy boy and can’t wait to be able to have his new family meet him. There is just something about his soft, warm brown eyes that will melt your heart.
Jax has been neutered, is up to date on his shots, and microchipped. He has seen our veterinarian for a full senior blood panel and exam.
